The session titled “XR and Future Healthcare” will take place on Tuesday, November 14, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM GMT in Theatre 2. XR technology, which encompasses virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), holds the promise of revolutionizing global healthcare, from medical education to clinical practice. This enlightening session will delve into the various applications of XR in medical education and clinical care and its future role within the NHS and healthcare systems worldwide. 

Dr. Neil Ralph, Head of Technology-Enhanced Learning for NHS, will provide insights into the role of XR and its future applications within the NHS for training and education. Mr. Asit Arora will share his extensive experience with an integrated XR platform designed for undergraduate medical education, which includes immersive interactive 3D patient-specific anatomical models for Transoral robotic surgery. Dr. Jonathan Morris from the Mayo Clinic will discuss the Mayo Clinic’s experience with XR applications and the concept of creating a ‘Digital twin’ to optimize team training, collaborative working, and safety in the operating room. Additionally, Dr. Susan Kirsh and Anne Lord Bailey will share the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) experience launching an XR clinical program, including neurological risk assessment and chronic pain management. 

Mesmerise Group CTO Dan Donovan and final-year medical student Mohamed Yousef will moderate the panel discussion, including a Q&A session where attendees can have their questions addressed by the experts. The session promises to show how XR technology is shaping the future of surgery and healthcare.
