Empowering the Next Generation: WorkX Students Gain Hands-On Experience

Mesmerise hosted seven students from the American School in London this past summer through the school’s WorkX program as part of our dedication to education and community engagement.

One of their standout projects involved diving into the world of small language models (SLMs) and using them in a real-world healthcare diagnosis. Throughout the project, the students gained hands-on experience with SLMs’ current capabilities, setting up and running SLMs on their local machines and creating Python scripts to generate prompts and test SLM accuracy.

After running their tests, they developed metrics, compared the model outputs against NHS data, and evaluated the models side by side. Based on their findings, they ultimately recommended the best model. They showcased their work in a compelling demo and review session.

Another group of students worked on projects exploring the impact of branding and customer personas on advertising, social media, and website development. Their tasks included researching how brands identify target audiences, understanding audience personas, and analyzing advertising methods used by selected brands. Additionally, they created their own brand around a business idea. The students also designed social media posts and outlined key elements for a website.

One student reflected on the experience, calling the project “a perfect mix of independence with support and guidance.” They also praised the Mesmerise team, saying, “They were always eager to help and incredibly accommodating.” This positive feedback is a testament to the support and guidance provided by the Mesmerise team.

Many thanks to Dan Clemo, Ally Kaiser, Minh Pham, and Coy Shaffstall for mentoring the WorkX students.
